Classmate Mary Ann Stowe Cox - 3

Sadly, I report that our classmate Mary Ann Stowe Cox has passed away. Mary Ann was a nice and pleasant person. I always enjoyed running into her in Martinsville and especially seeing her at our class reunions. She will be missed.

Mary Ann Stowe Cox, 70, of Martinsville, died Friday, April 3, 2009, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

She was born in Martinsville on Sept. 17, 1938, to Thomas Richard Stowe and Cora Freeman Stowe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Oscar Benton Gilley; second husband, Thomas J. “Tommy� Cox; and a daughter, Regina Nelson.

She was a 1956 graduate of Martinsville High School, retired from DuPont and was a member of Chatham Heights Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Lisa Gilley of Richmond; a brother, Randolph Stowe of Martinsville; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Chatham Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Michael Hatfield officiating. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends at the church for one hour before the service Tuesday and other times at the home of her brother, Randolph Stowe, 721 Prospect Hill Drive, Martinsville.

Memorials may be made to Chatham Heights Baptist Church Elevator Fund, 1235 Old Chatham Road, Martinsville, Va. 24112.
