Those who have gone before us - 29
09/30/04     Monique (Martin) Poole  (1984)      mobeta@bellsouth.net
Hi all. I missed the 20 year reunion and I cannot believe I did. I actually took off work to go and my husband and I went out of town somewhere else instead. It was my first and last time missing a reunion. I was driving down the highway when I received the news of Delphine. I was stunned and numbed. We go through school and never think about how we, ourselves or our classmates will leave this earth, but we certainly never imagine it being tragic or at the hands of someone we pass in the hallways. My cousin, Yolanda (Dorothy) Brown, our classmate was tragically murdered a few years ago also. Have we lost any other classmates that anyone knows about? Did we do anything on behalf of the class of 84 for Delphine? Life is short and things like this make you appreciate it more and more....That very well could have been one of us...."There go I, EXCEPT by the grace of God." To all of my classmates - I love you, I miss you, I wish you well in all that you do in life and I look forward to seeing you at the next reunion.

Re: Those who have gone before us
Monique we missed you too! I am going to be a pall bearer for Delphine. The funeral is tomorrow at 1 pm. I am still in a state of disbelief and shock. She was looking so forward to seeing everyone again. We talked about the reunion the night before she was murdered and everyday after our sons' footbal practices for the past two months. Cathy Blankenship read a wonderful poem dedicated to our classmates that have passed away, called "Gone too soon". I thought it was a great tribute to them all. I'll be sure to give the family your condolences tomorrow.

Thanks so much Andy for being there on behalf of our class. I am sure those classmates at home will attend the funeral as well. Keep me posted.

Much love - Monique

Re: Those who have gone before us
Monique,
I am so sorry to hear of the circumstances around Yolanda's passing. I had no idea. I'm also sorry you couldn't make it to the reunion. At the banquet Sat. night, we all signed a card for Delphine's family to express our deepest sympathy. It's not much compared to how we all felt. I hope that we don't have any one else to mourn at our next reunion. By the way, we voted to get together in five years instead of waiting ten more years to get together. I hope all is well with you and your family. I have memories of you wayyy back. Did you go to Patrick Henry Elem. or am I remembering from Albert Harris? Are you still crazy and fun? Take care.

Re: Those who have gone before us
Hi All,

Monique I am so sorry you missed the reunion, you really missed a memorable one for more reasons than one. It was our 20th year reunion and I must say it was the best one yet. My heart was shattered to pieces when I heard about Delphine. She and I were very close in High School..I will never understand her death. I think being with my classmates, people that knew Delphine and people who were feeling the same pain as I made dealing with it a little better. Life is really shorter than we think. It is very important to live life as if each day was your last because you never know when death may come knocking on your door.

To all of my classmates out there I love you all. I have never missed a reunion and never intend to miss one. I just think it is so important to cherish the friendships we made so long ago. Looking forward to seeing you all again in 5 years....If it is in God's Plan. Take care
