Thelma Audrey Lipford Smith, 91, died Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Blue Ridge Manor in Martinsville, VA. Born on April 10, 1921 in Martinsville, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Beverly Crowder Lipford and Hallie Chaffin Lipford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norris Franklin Smith; two sons, William Temple Smith and Robert Hunter Smith II; two brothers, Nelson Beverly Lipford and James Walker Lipford.
Mrs. Smith graduated from Martinsville High School and Virginia Intermont College. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Martinsville.
Survivors include a son Nelson Franklin Smith of Martinsville; two sisters, Shirley Lipford Slocum and Beverly Lipford Yeager, both of Martinsville; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, with the Reverend John Fulcher officiating.
Memorials may be made to Edwards Adult Day Care, 431 Commonwealth Blvd. Martinsville, VA or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
