Walker Edwin Shank, 27, of Baldwin Harbour, N.Y., and formerly of Martinsville, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at his home.

He was born in Martinsville on Oct. 17, 1981, to Ralph E. Shank Jr. and Sandra Matherly Shank of Martinsville.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Jean Fishburn Shank, and his maternal grandfather, Carroll Leonard Matherly.

He graduated from Martinsville High School in 2000 and the University of Virginia in 2004. He was a mortgage specialist in the banking industry, and he was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his maternal grandmother, Genny Walker Matherly of Martinsville; paternal grandfather, Ralph Edwin Shank Sr. of Martinsville; a brother, Taylor Carroll Shank of Martinsville; and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville with the Rev. Randy Stephens officiating. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday and other times at the home of his parents in Martinsville.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Memorial Processing Center, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, Va. 23060-9979; the American Diabetes Association, Richmond-Petersburg, Va. Office, 4335 Cox Road, Glen Allen, Va. 23060; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Norris Funeral Services and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
