My fellow time wasters ... - 32
03/19/02     John Kiser  (1987)      jkiser@pobox.upenn.edu
The very fact that we've all stumbled onto this internet version of the Country Club Rd turnaround suggests that we're doing little to raise the GDP. Keep up the good work!

For my part, I'm living in Philly and working for the U. of Penn., where I've landed after abandoning an English Ph.D. program--too depressing! No offspring yet, but I will be getting married in August in Point Abino, Ontario.

Hope to see more posts from y'all!

Re: My fellow time wasters ...
Hi, prof;
Karen (Love) Cooper told me about this site, and shared your email with me. Glad to hear you're doing well. It's really no surprise! I graduated from Radford in '92 with a b.s. in psychology - talk about a waste of time. I have been married for 8 years, and have almost-five-year-old twin daughters. I lived in Winston-Salem for four years after college, then moved back to "the 'ville" after the twins were born (I needed help!). I actually live up the street from your parents, so if you or Beth are ever in town, please stop by! I've been working in the trust dept. at SunTrust for over four years (that psych degree sure comes in handy - ha!). I'm still not sure what I want to be when I grow up, but I guess there's still time for that. My husband is a computer geek - systems analyst, I think, is what he calls himself.
I've heard bits and pieces about Boyd from people who have run into him in Richmond. I hope things will turn around for him. Tell him I said hi!
Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

Re: My fellow time wasters ...
Hey Heidi! Great to hear from you! I had no idea you were living right up the street ... would've thought my mom would be more on top of things than that. I'm not sure when I'll be stopping into the 'ville next, but you and Karen and me have got to get together for a chat.

It sounds like things are going really well for you, and BTW, I don't know what I want to do when I grow up either ... I'm increasingly convinced I never will be either, but as long as I can keep myself fed while I figure it out, then I reckon everything's kosher.

I'll pass along your regards to Boyd. We usually talk every couple of weeks ... neither of us seems to have anyone else we can talk "metal" with (some things never change) ;p

I'll keep your e-mail and will stay in touch!

Best,
jk

Congrats John, wish you the best. hanging in South Carolina once again..Going to school to be a Chef. Things are great in the world of culinary. Mellowed a bit. Are you doing anything with the Music? Stumbled on to the site. Say hi to Boyd for me and to beth.

Hi John. It sounds like you have become a Responsible Adult. Perhaps you could give lessons. A lot of us seem to have landed in education; I'm the counselor at a school for geeks in SC. I also teach History of Rock & Roll. I actually don't remember much about high school, I think I've blocked it as a traumatic event. I do remember going to see Empire Strikes Back with you about a million times though.

Re: My fellow time wasters ...
Hey LeAnne,

You're right about a number of folks going into education, and a couple of other M'ville folks I've run into (but who haven't yet rung in) have gone the same route. Wonder why that is? (Note opportunity for commentary provided by that question ...)

As to my being a responsible adult, apparently I come across as being entirely more together than I feel, but things could certainly have turned out worse. Nothing against Martinsville in of itself, but in retrospect, getting far away from it is the best move anyone who grew up there could've made. Are your folks still there? Have you been back since high school?

Man, we did see that movie a lot. At least five times. The only other movie I've seen more than twice in the theater is The Matrix. That flick just kept getting better.

A class on the history of Rock & Roll? That's awsome!! (Let me know if you need any input on the metal scene! :P ) Are you taking any particular critical approach to it (gender, race, economics, etc.)? Tell me more!

jk
