Re: from Kimbo's niece
India,
My name is Michael Bestler and I was one year behind Kimbo and played on the tennis team with him in 1980. I knew Kimbo since he was about 13 or 14 years old. He was one of the best tennis players to ever come out of Martinsville and the only player is Martinsville High history to win an individual state championship. (To the best of my knowledge) We were not close friends but I can say we were friends and I was extremely saddend by the news of his death.
I have more information about Kimbo and a couple of good stories that you might be able to use in your memoir.
I'll be in touch.

Re: from Kimbo's niece
Hello India, my name is Jon Ramthun and Kimbo was my friend and doubles partner when we attended Va Tech. What you should know about your Uncle is that he had an incredible zest for life and was a great athlete to boot. Just an all-around super individual and one who I think about often and wonder how this world would have changed with him in it. Take care..

Friend of Kimbo's form VT
Kimbo was one of the first guys I had a crush on freshman year. That fizzled but we remained friends for years after that even when he went to do graduate work at UVA. He was not only one of the most brilliant people I ever met but also had a unbelivable compassionate heart of gold. When I found out that he had passed away in France years ago, I was truly heartbroken because I knew I would never meet another like him. I love and miss him so much. Forever in my heart, Laurie (Stubbs) Hayakawa
