Some Good News - 15
07/24/06     Bob White  (1968)      quailster@msn.com
Dawn Chappell Shank recently posted a message on the '69 site asking for some good news. I will give some good news. After Will Gravelys inspired exhortation of 5/31/06, we now have 11 folks that have contributed their hard earned funds to Mavahi.Com. That figure pretty much leaves our fellow Mavahi classes languishing in the dust. If any of you have ever had to fight off the unrelenting solicitation emails of Classmates.Com or Reunion.Com, you can truly appreciate what a blessing this site is. Keep up the good work Mr. Franck.
Hope everyone is having a good summer.

Re: Some Good News
Hey Bobwhite,
Last we heard, you were twenty-five pounds lighter and walking with a cane. Got any more updates on your recuperative progress? By the way, I would echo your good news that the Class of '68 is so supportive of the website, but hey, look around. We also use it more than any other class!! I guess we are all just excellent examples of arrested development, but I love it!

Re: Some Good News
Hey Liz,
Well, the 25 lb. loss lasted about as long as it took me to maneuver my way to the refrigerator. I have managed to keep some of it off, and hope to use my new mobility to remove a few more inches from my girth. The good news is that for the first time since my early 20’s I do not have chronic pain in my right knee. I have a very good return of range of motion, and am working on building strength to improve stability on stairs. I went to my Doc on Monday, and he was very pleased with the progress. He did give me a list of approved and non-approved activities. What a heartbreak to see basketball on the non-approved list. I was so hoping to dazzle my ex-classmates at the next reunion. I think that only now can they appreciate some of the moves I developed while at Mavahi. It was 15 years after I graduated that Magic Johnson stole my idea of taking 3 extra steps on the way to the basket. Alan Iverson uses the “hesitation dribble to good effect, but before he was born I was hesitating my dribble for 5 to 10 seconds. Finally, while Shaq amazed folks with his ability to use his large posterior to back defenders into the second row, I routinely backed my way to the basket at the City Park. If Husky Hall had only not threatened to bill me for damage my layups did to the backboards, the whole world might have seen all of those years sooner.

Give Hy my best, and I promise to make sure we visit on my next trip back that way.
