Many, many years ago, as a student at Patrick Henry Elementary, many of you may remember me as simply Linda Weaver from Maple Street. I went through elementary and high school with most of you....
I'm not embarrassed to tell this little story now, 'cause, frankly, we're old enough to get a chuckle of it.
When I was, maybe, in third grade, one of the local Women's Clubs were gracious enough to take me under their wings and provide me with proper dental care. I was picked up from school during the morning and taken to Dr. Charles Hall in the Chief Tassell Bldg. You ALL know where that is located, don't you. As I recall, there were quite a few visits to Dr. Hall. Maybe I was just so scared it seemed like a lot!! LOL
You will never guess who the wonderful lady was who picked me up from school, drove me to Dr. Hall's, patiently waited for me and then drove me back to school!
Mrs. Mitchell!!!!
If I remember correctly, she drove a green, 1953 or '54 Chevrolet. During my ride, the silence was deafening. Mrs. Mitchell tried to talk to me...I'm sure she sensed the tension. However, I wasn't very responsive. The ride to town was like the 'death ride' for me. What's more, that Chevrolet must have had the loudest clicking turn signals ever put on a car....or maybe it was just the fact that every turn meant that I was getting closer to Dr. Hall. The signals never seemed quite as loud on my return trip to school.
Mrs. Mitchell was one of the kindest, most dearest women I have ever had the chance to meet. Even though my Mom was not with me during these dreadful dentist appts., Mrs. Mitchell was the next best thing.
I willl never forget her!

Linda, I vaguely remember that. You take it way back over 50 years for that wonderful tribute to my mother. Beth Hammill emailed me to read this and appropriately it would be my mom's 93rd birthday today that I am reflecting on your message. Thanks for the kind works.
