Re: Lost another classmate |
Betty was a good friend in high school. She and I and Judy Crews got suspended form school for a day our Senior year for "skipping" study hall and going to Drewry Mason. I will never forget riding around with her and singing South Street!
We were always going to "get together" and never did and now it is too late. It's another lesson, don't put off things for too long because you may not get another chance!
We had some great times together and I am so sorry I never got a chance to get up with her in recent years! |

Re: Lost another classmate |
I really enjoyed Betty's friendship and being pals in high school. She had a great personality and was lots of fun. I can see her dark red hair and freckles now. I have not seen her in all these years since high school, but I'm sure she will be sadly missed by her family and friends. |

Re: Lost another classmate |
I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of Betty Hankins. I have fond memories of 8th grade slumber parties at the home of Edith Amos who lived next door to Betty. One night we desparately wanted to do something very bad and chose the neighbor across the street as our target. (I don't remember why.)
During the night we sneeked across the street and took a small rocking chair from their front porch, brought it back to Edith's house and painted that chair red! (How evil!)We carefully placed the sticky red chair back on the porch and ran like Hell back across the street! Each of us vowed never to tell who did it and we were all anticipating a neighborhood fury over the vandalism of that old chair as nothing ever happened on South Street. Most of the residents were older, retired people with few if any kids. I guess we wanted to shake them up!
The next morning, nothing happened. Days passed and it was like nobody even noticed our treachery!
I can only remember our disappointment when we realized that apparently nobody appreciated our fine work!
Thanks for the memory, Betty and Edith
