Passing of Marvin Plaster - 5

Marvin Joe Plaster, Sr., 76, of Ridgeway, VA passed away Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Blue Ridge Rehab Center, Martinsville, VA. Mr. Plaster was born on November 13, 1938 in Henry County to the late Farley Joe Plaster and Mildred Irene Turner Plaster. Marvin was a member of First Baptist Church of Ridgeway. He graduated from Martinsville High School in 1958 where he played several sports. Marvin played on the first Men’s Basketball State Championship team at Martinsville High School. He served as president of the Drewry Mason High School Boosters Club for nine years. He led the merger of Drewry Mason and G W Carver boosters into what is today’s Magna Vista High School Boosters Club where he served as President for two years. Marvin worked at DuPont on B shift for 31 years, while there he played and later coached the B Shift Men’s Industrial League softball team. He was also a Union Representative.

He is survived by his wife of fifty five years, Magdalene “Maggie” Cobler Plaster of the residence; daughters, Kim Plaster of High Point, NC and Michelle Plaster Johnston and husband Scott of High Point, NC; son, Marvin Plaster, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Leonard Plaster of Roanoke, VA and Ronnie Plaster of Danville, VA; grandchildren, Tessa Johnston and MaKenna Johnston.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Ridgeway with Pastor Ray Shelton officiating. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery, Ridgeway, VA. Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Ridgeway, 15 Church Street, Ridgeway, VA 24148 and other times at the home, 526 Covington Lane, Ridgeway, VA 24148.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his honor to First Baptist Church of Ridgeway, P.O. Box 715, Ridgeway, VA 24148.

Norris Funeral Services, Inc. and Crematory, Martinsville, VA is serving the Plaster family.
